Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

OPERATING ROOM

1.     Acts as a resource for assigned staff

2.     Assists with training and orientation of new hires/ students/ residents / in room cleaning, turnover, equipment user training (EUT), low level disinfection agents, and environmental service processes for cleaning within restricted, semi-restricted and un-restricted areas

3.     Assists Department Coordinator or Charge Nurse in continuous readiness efforts related to environmental safety and infection prevention activities

4.     Demonstrates proper use of patient transfer devices and proper body mechanics

5.     Assists cleaning of emergency spills when observed or upon request

6.     Retrieves/delivers required items for patient care to team members as requested, adhering to specific procedures detailed for each department such as equipment, blood, and specimens.

7.     Provides clinical support under the direction/supervision of a member of the surgical services team e.g., serving as a dedicated runner during Massive Transfusion Protocol

8.     Practices standard precautions in the process of handling of supplies/equipment/specimens as directed by hospital and department procedures and policies.

9.     Provides clinical assistance, under direct RN supervision, with opening sterile supplies and trays, performing initial point-of-use cleaning of surgical instruments at the end of the procedure

10.  Assists with patient positioning under direct supervision of an RN

11.  Assists with complex surgical skin preparations under direct supervision of an RN

12.  Practices infection prevention isolation policies 

13.  Manages linen and solution distribution noting expiration dates in accordance with policy. Ensures clean linens are on stretchers and inpatient beds

14.  Stocks operating rooms, scrub sink areas, pass-throughs and sterile cores as needed ensuring supplies have not expired.

15.  Maintains PAR levels of all unit equipment such as suction machines, pumps, carts, O2 tanks, etc.

16.  Collaborates with leadership to identify gaps in current cleaning processes and implements strategies to address gaps

17.  Performs job functions adhering to service standards with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

18.  Conducts communication courteously and clearly within the guidelines of the service standards.

19.  Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.  Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.

 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Two years of directly related experience in a surgical setting.
  • Must be able to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to follow-up on information with staff members
  • Have excellent public contact skills-courteous, tactful, friendly; able to work well with others
  • Ability to organize workday and environment to get job done
  • Ability to handle multiple requests and work in a stressful environment
  • Maintain current BLS certification

PREFERRED

  • Certified Nursing Assistant
  • One or more years in Environmental Services in healthcare setting
  • Hospital experience.
