Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.              Assists in the ongoing development and administration of hospital and department Quality Improvement program.

 

2.              Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.  Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.

 

A.        SUPPLY (THIRD FLOOR SURGERY)

 

            1.         Loans surgical instruments throughout hospital for special and emergency procedures. Maintains logs for tracking and retrieving loaned items.

 

2.         Inventories, orders, and maintains stockroom supplies within specific area of responsibility.

 

3.         Inspects sterilized instrument trays and supplies for evidence of contamination.

 

4.         Orients new Surgical Technologists and nursing personnel in terms of location, identification, and substitution of specialty surgical instruments.

 

5.         Locates necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment for individual cases as necessary.

 

6.         Performs the duties and responsibilities of the Instrument Technician II as required.

 

B.         CASE CART (GROUND FLOOR SURGERY)

 

In addition to the duties listed above, all Surgical Case Cart/Supply Technologists assigned to the Ground Floor Surgery department will be responsible for the following duties:

 

 

1.     Checks records and organizes

 

2.     Collects data

 

3.     Checks daily surgical schedule to identify changes and additional procedures. Ensures case cart is ordered for surgical procedures.

 

4.     Utilizing physician's preference card, verifies case carts have correct instruments and supplies.  Stocks cart with specialized instruments, and determines appropriate instrument substitutions.

 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.         Other duties as assigned by supervision.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

 

  • Surgical technologist with at least one (1) years of operating room experience; OR,
  • Certified surgical technologist; OR,
  • Two (2) years instrument processing, or related experience with demonstrated proficiency in recognizing various types of specialty instruments.

PREFERRED

  • Surgical technologist with at least two (2) years of operating room experience; OR,
  • Certified surgical technologist with at least one (1) year of operating room experience; OR,
  •  Three (3) years instrument processing, or related experience with demonstrated proficiency in recognizing various types of specialty instruments.
