Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist anesthesia providers and provides support for anesthetizing procedures by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems, and ensuring adequate supply levels in anesthetizing locations:
  2. Checks anesthesia machines and anesthesia carts ensuring appropriate PAR level of supplies in each room prior to the beginning of the surgery schedule and between procedures.
  3. Checks, maintains and replaces anesthesia gas tanks as needed per hospital policy under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  4. Organizes, manages supply levels and ensures environmental cleanliness of the anesthesia workroom.
  5. Responds to calls from locations where anesthesia care is provided and answers questions as appropriate regarding duties within their scope of practice.
  6. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  7. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury accident to supervisor.
  8. Serves as a preceptor for new employees and anesthesia technician interns.
  9. Dispose of contaminated materials and disinfect equipment following policy and procedure concerning biohazardous waste.
  10. Follows hospital policy for point of use cleaning and the transport of contaminated equipment. Cleans anesthesia equipment at the beginning of each day and following each use per hospital policy.
  11. Identifies malfunctioning equipment, trouble shoots equipment problems and refers more serious problems to Biomed.
  12. Ensures appropriate storage of equipment.
  13. Communicates effectively in written and oral mode.
  14. Gives appropriate feedback and remains open to feedback from others.
  15. Recognizes and demonstrates congruence between verbal and non-verbal behavior.
  16. Maintains pharmaceutical security – including anesthesia gases, IV fluids and medications at all times.
  17. Utilizes knowledge of inventory control to assure proper medication storage and product integrity; performs scheduled removal of outdated products and maintains adequate drug supply
  18. Assures quality of pharmaceuticals by maintaining cleanliness of work areas which includes, but is not limited to, counter tops, floors, and trash cans.
  19. Distributes floor stock to care areas as necessary.
  20. Performs monthly cycle counts to ensure inventory par levels, and pharmaceutical expiration date checking. Reports any concerns immediately to the surgery pharmacist.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Other duties as assigned by supervision.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must hold American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).

PREFERRED

  • Additional clinical specialty certifications in specific units including Registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Georgia, Certified Anesthesia Technologist (Cer.ATT), etc.)
  • Four (4) years of experience as an Anesthesia Technician.
  • One (1) year of experience as an Anesthesia Technician at Northside.
  • Visual color acuity screening depending on the role in specific units.
