Responsibilities

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. General
  1. Coordinates inventory requirements with clinical leaders in a variety of primary and secondary locations.
  2. Collaborates with clinical and operational leadership to establish appropriate stocking levels.
  3. Completes required requisition forms to maintain established stocking levels.
  4. Works with clinical leadership and hospital staff to provide/obtain information and resolve problems to ensure customer satisfaction.
  5. Recommends potential improvement opportunities to leadership team; leads improvement efforts, including communication and education regarding any approved changes.
  6. Conducts periodic cycle count of supplies.
  7. Conducts daily audit of inventory.
  8. Identifies slow moving inventory and alerts leadership.
  9. Works with internal departments (Central Supply, Sterile Processing) to ensure inventory levels from them are maintained at established levels.
  10. Provides routine performance updates (Excel and/or PowerPoint) up to the Director level.
  11. Provides detailed supply expense data to manager as requested.
  12. Performs special projects as assigned by the Manager.

 

  1. Surgical Services
  1. Coordinates the replenishment of OR supplies provided by Sterile Processing, including peel packed instruments.
  2. Collaborates with clinical staff to establish appropriate supply lists and quantities to maintain in ORs or on supply carts.
  3. Orders tissue products according to guidelines provided by clinical leadership; Coordinates all tissue acquisitions with the Transfusion Service (Tissue/Blood Bank) and consults regarding storage of tissue.

 

  1. Tissue Bank
  1. Responsible for training employees and updating training documents.
  2. Presents Tissue Bank related information to the Surgical Services employees that handle tissues.
  3. Identifies expiring inventory and notifies appropriate personnel.  
  4. Collaborates with clinical staff to ensure tissues are available.
  5. Documents and monitors movement of tissues.
  6. Provides additional updates to the Director level including monthly updates with statistics of tissue inventory, usage, and waste.
  7. Ensures items approved by PVAC (Product Value Added Committee) are entered into tracking system.
  8. Collaborates with Materials Management to ensure accurate shipment receipt and acceptable shipping conditions.
  9. Collaborates with Surgical Systems Team and Surgical Services to verify items are documented as implanted or explanted in EHR and resolves discrepancies.
  10. Works with regulatory manager to ensure annual tissue registration is accurate.
  11. Participates in the recall or adverse event investigation.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Other duties as assigned by supervision.

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field OR five (5) years relevant clinical experience in lieu of degree.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in the usage and application of computers and relevant word processing and spreadsheet programs.

PREFERRED

  • Previous experience in inventory control and/or process improvement.
  • Previous surgical technologist experience in Surgical Services area.
  • Certification relevant to department in which assigned. (Example: CST or CNOR for Surgery)
