Responsibilities

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

The Business Data Engineer for Business Intelligence & Data Strategies (BIDS) team is responsible for delivering solutions in both the BI space and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to benefit Northside Hospital (NSH). 

Assists in the design, build and maintain the data infrastructure in order to transform data into actionable insights that can be used to inform business decisions through effective data pipelines. Develops accurate high quality BI reporting, visualizations, analytics and results driven solutions via any of the technologies supported in NSH.

The position also requires strategic enterprise data deliverables including but not limited to; properly structuring data in the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), optimizing end user consumables from the EDW, creating mechanisms for non-system specific data to be incorporated into the EDW.  This includes data or solution architecting, data architecting, and maintaining ETL best practices for operations of the EDW. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collects, defines and translates business requirements into technical data solutions for the building and development of efficient reporting, data pipelines and analytical tools throughout the Finance division and other functional areas of the organization.
  2. Understands, efficiently uses and actively contributes to the development of business intelligence tools throughout the organization, which align with strategic goals and initiatives.
  3. Contributes to the design, build and maintenance of dashboards, scorecards and reporting analytics to user and scope specifications.
  4. Maintains mechanisms to administer manual or automated population of data tables in support of recurring reporting.
  5. Design, build and maintenance of data pipelines to optimize data retrieval and insights for specific business needs.
  6. Produces technical documentation for programming and reporting efforts.
  7. Generates and analyzes data to respond to routine and ad-hoc end user requests.
  8. Assist with special systems and analytics projects.
  9. Identifies opportunities and recommendations for process improvement within the organization, including process automation and data audits.  Responsible for programming and implementation of said improvements.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

  1. S. in Computer Science/Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  2. 0-2 years related work experience
  3. Ability to quickly learn and synthesize new technologies
  4. Aptitude for programming, Structured Query Language (SQL), Data Modeling and/or application design
  5. Excellent communication, presentation and design skills
  6. Excellent analytical skills interpreting meaning from data
  7. Must have excellent technical aptitude and an affinity for data and analysis.
  8. Must also have the aptitude to learn, engage and utilize new vendor applications and tools quickly.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED

  1. 1-2 years’ experience in a healthcare environment
  2. Experience and/or coursework related to scripting, programming and automation
  3. Experience and/or coursework with database environments - IBM Netezza , Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle.
  4. Experience and/or coursework with ETL software
  5. Experience and/or coursework with developing with Business Intelligence Visualization software : Tibco Spotfire, Tableau, PowerBI or Qlikview
  6. Experience and/or coursework with Python, R, Javascript, CSS, HTML, UNIX, PERL, Powershell or other scripting langages.
  7. Familiarity with Data mining, Data modeling for applications and data warehousing, Data cleansing, Data and Data standardization
