Responsibilities

Helps to care for children and infants, from six weeks to eight years, and provides for their physical, emotional, and educational needs, and in maintaining a safe, clean environment.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.     Interacts positively with children at all time.

 

2.     Assists Teacher I in planning, implementing, and evaluating daily activities for children in their assigned group.

 

3.     Creates and maintains a physical environment that promotes positive development.

 

4.     Directs classroom activities in the absence of the Teacher I.

 

5.     Keeps appropriate records.

 

6.     Maintains health and safety of children and environment

 

7.     Participates in ongoing professional development.

 

8.     Responds in a professional manner to all situations.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

 

  1. Child Development Associate (CDA) OR
  • Current enrollment in an early childhood certification program such as Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC), Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Education, AND completion of a CDA within one year of hire OR
  • Six months experience in a structured classroom setting AND completion of a CDA within one year of hire
  1. Demonstrated knowledge of child development/management techniques, appropriate activities for children and related care regulations. Must be willing to obtain additional training on a regular basis.
  2. Must be energetic, and an interest in and enjoyment of children.
  3. Must possess good written and oral communication skills.
  4. Must be certified in CPR and First Aid.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED 

  1. College courses, vocational school training in early childhood education (TCC) or Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) and one year of experience.
