Overview

Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals under the supervision of the authorized user and operates radio isotopic detector equipment to produce photoscans of designated areas of the human body for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. In Cardiology Services, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist serves adult and geriatric patients.

Responsibilities

 

  • Reviews physician's order and obtains pertinent medical information to identify type of examination
  • Handles, calibrates, and administers radioactive materials to patients in accordance with accepted safety procedures to safeguard against overexposure to
  • Explains procedure to patient and completes pregnancy
  •  Selects equipment protocol, positions patient, and modifies factors as necessary to display desired anatomy.
  • Performs imaging for surgical and therapeutic treatments. (i.e. Lymphoscintigraphy, Y90 embolization, )
  • Obtains scans, processes images, and reviews test results with nuclear licensed physician to determine if additional images are
  • Enters patient charges into computer
  • Calibrates instruments daily and takes radioactivity readings to check for possible
  • Follows guidelines established by the Georgia Department of Natural
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Cross trained to perform PET/CT exams and is deemed competent to perform diagnostic CT exams.

**Position involves performing Cardiac Nuclear Stress testing (exercise and pharmacologic) in a physician practice setting.**

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

 

  1. Graduate of accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program AND certified as Nuclear Medicine Technologist or registry eligible for an appropriate certification examination through the Nuclear Medicine Technology certification Board (NMTCB)
  2. Certified in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  3. Registered as a CT Technologist for sites with PETCT within (1) one year of hire date.
