The Respiratory Extern- Student at Northside Hospital participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team in assisting with assessing, implementing, planning, and evaluating patient care services under the direction and supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional. Provides designated clinical and/or support services.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists with the management of the ongoing process of respiratory care delivery to patients, incorporating age-related and developmental-specific requirements under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional. This includes: airway clearance, suctioning, and nebulizer therapies as well as set up and adjustment of supplemental oxygen therapies, incentive spirometry, and remote monitoring duties.
- Participates in the educational process related to the delivery of healthcare under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.
- Participates in the discharge planning process under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.
- Assists in the management of the environment for the delivery of care under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.
- May assist with equipment and supply stocking, cleaning, and set-up.
- Maintains professional development.
- Participates in the achievement of the organizational and departmental goals.
- Performs other responsibilities as required under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.
