Responsibilities

Provides psychological evaluation and psychotherapeutic services to medical patients and when appropriate significant others. Consults with physicians and nurses and makes recommendations for appropriate services. Functions as a clinical resource to members of multidisciplinary treatment teams. May provide recommendations for program development around issues of health psychology. May supervise doctoral and post-doctoral trainees in psychology. Patients may include adolescents, adult, and geriatric populations.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  1. Performs psychological screenings and evaluations to assess psychological functioning.
  2. Diagnoses mental, emotional, and personality disorders.
  3. Provides psychotherapy, crisis intervention, group, couples and family therapy appropriate to needs of patients. Documents therapeutic interventions and patient's response.  Provides educational services to the patient, family members/significant others, and to the community.
  4. Consults with physicians, nursing, pastoral care, and other medical staff concerning mental health issues.
  5. Evaluates patient's need for psychiatric hospitalization.
  6. Coordinates and manages psychological support for hospitalized patients requiring health psychology  services.
  7. Presents in‑service educational programs to physicians, nurses, pastoral care and mental health staff upon request.
  8. May supervise doctoral and post-doctoral level trainees in psychology concerning diagnostic, therapeutic, and other related issues.  
  9. May develop and implement new programs and clinical services for department.
  10. Maintains clinical and theoretical knowledge base by attending continuing education programs.
  11. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.  Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to manager.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) with primary study in Clinical Psychology.
  • GA Licensed Clinical Psychologist 
  • Completion of one year supervised clinical internship.
  • Must be CPR certified.

PREFERRED:

  • One (1) year experience in a medical setting evaluating and treating patients for psychological factors associated with medical problems.
