Overview

Provides instruction to new and expectant parents on a variety of perinatal health issues. The Perinatal Education Instructor is a nurse with advanced training and skill in Maternal-Child Nursing or a specific allied health field.  Works with women of child‑bearing ages.

Responsibilities

  1. Utilizes a systematic approach to the assessment of the participant’s learning needs. Utilizes a systematic approach to the assessment of the participant’s expectations of the class.
  2. Plans and organizes class materials and content according to established curriculum and individual and group learning needs and expectations. Utilizes a variety of teaching strategies and class parent materials. 
  3. Plans, organizes and creates an environment in such a way that learning is enhanced. Sets up and breaks down classrooms according to room utilization diagram.
  4. Skilled in actual presentation of information. Presentation based on adult learning principles.  Instructor can draw distinctions between personal beliefs or opinions and scientific fact.
  5. Utilizes a variety of methods to continuously evaluate learner comprehension and changes approach accordingly.
  6. Operates within the standards of practice as defined by departmental/hospital policies and professional organizations. Remains current in areas of expertise related to classes taught.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing  
  2. Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or Nursing Compact (NLC/eNLC) or Multistate License 
  3. Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) 

 

PREFERRED

 

  1. International certification in childbirth education or related field.
  2. Prior clinical and adult education experience.
  3. Certified as an American Heart Association BLS instructor, or must become certified within probationary period if teaching CPR
