Responsibilities

The Communications Specialist supports Northside Hospital’s efforts to enhance its reputation and visibility through media relations and strategic communications. This role assists in cultivating relationships with journalists, developing story ideas and coordinating media outreach to promote the hospital system’s services and achievements. The position also contributes to creating and distributing content across digital, editorial and social channels, ensuring consistency with Northside’s brand and organizational goals.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in the development of compelling, strategic content that promotes Northside Hospital services across social media, website, video, news media and other channels.
  2. Support hospital’s media relations activities, including drafting news releases, coordinating media outreach, responding to media inquiries, providing on-call support and supporting crisis communications response with consistent messaging.
  3. Coordinate photography/video when needed to support media relations activities.
  4. Support production and distribution of digital editions of employee newsletter and internal communications.
  5. Contribute editorial content for distribution through social media channels, online News Center and other outlets.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media or related field.
  2. Six (6) years’ experience in marketing, communications and/or journalism.
  3. Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills with attention to detail.
  4. Creative thinker with the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content.
  5. Must have advanced knowledge and skills in using the following desktop programs: Microsoft Office.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED

  1. Familiarity with health care marketing and HIPAA-compliant communications preferred.
  2. Experience in a hospital marketing and/or public relations department.
  3. Photography and/or video experience.
  4. Web writing and knowledge of SEO.
  5. Skilled in collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  6. A practiced problem-solver always bringing solutions to the table, especially when consulting management and the leadership team.
  7. Focused, flexible and curious.
