Responsibilities

The ETL/DWH Developer II for the Business Data and Technology Enablement (BDTE) team is responsible for the design, development, implementation, testing, and maintenance of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) solutions and data warehousing processes within the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to support Northside Hospital (NSH). This role builds upon foundational ETL/DWH skills, requiring the developer to work more independently on moderately complex projects and contribute actively to the team's objectives.

 

The Developer II will leverage technologies such as IBM Infosphere Datastage, IBM Qualitystage, Netezza, and SQL Server to extract, transform, and load data from various source systems into the EDW. This position involves applying ETL best practices, enhancing data quality initiatives, troubleshooting issues, and contributing to the evolution of data warehousing solutions. Candidates should possess proven experience in ETL development and data warehousing, strong SQL skills, and the ability to manage assigned tasks effectively. Collaboration with team members, business analysts, and stakeholders is crucial.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • ETL Development and Implementation:
  • Develop, test, and maintain ETL workflows using IBM Infosphere Datastage for moderate complexity data integration tasks.
  • Implement data quality rules and checks using IBM Qualitystage to ensure data integrity.
  • Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and loading within Netezza and SQL Server environments.
  • Monitor ETL processes, identify and resolve issues proactively, and implement performance tuning improvements.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for ETL processes and workflows.
  • Data Warehousing Development:
  • Implement and support data warehousing solutions according to established designs and standards.
  • Contribute to the structuring and optimization of data within the EDW.
  • Participate actively in data modeling efforts and contribute to data architecture design discussions.
  • Reporting and Analytics Enablement:
  • Develop and maintain data solutions required to support reporting, analytics, and business intelligence requirements.
  • Ensure the accuracy, availability, and timeliness of data populated for recurring reports and analytical applications.
  • Collaborate with analysts and business users to understand data needs.
  • Technical Support and Collaboration:
  • Provide technical support and guidance related to ETL processes and data warehousing structures.
  • Collaborate with senior developers, analysts, and project managers on system enhancements and projects.
  • Assist with special systems and analytics projects, taking ownership of assigned components.
  • Continuous Improvement and Learning:
  • Stay current with ETL/DWH best practices, relevant technologies, and industry trends.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the ETL and data warehousing framework.
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions and potentially assist in mentoring junior team members.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

  • B.S. in Computer Science/Information Systems or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Two (2) years of hands-on experience in ETL development and data warehousing.
  • Solid understanding and practical application of relational database concepts, data warehousing principles (e.g., Kimball, Inmon), and SQL.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with an enterprise ETL tool (IBM Infosphere Datastage strongly preferred).
  • Experience writing and optimizing complex SQL queries.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Good communication (written and verbal) and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and manage time effectively.
